2021’s Colours
Pantone’s 2021 Colours of the Year are a duo of contrasting shades, each drawing on nature. Reflecting two very different moods, Ultimate Grey is a robust pebble shade – natural and grounding – whilst Illuminating, is a zingy, sunny shade of yellow.
Ultimate Grey [Pantone 17-5104] is about “strength and resilience” and “in terms of nature, it’s the colour of pebbles at the beach, of rock and stone that have been around for millions of years and aren’t going to disappear anytime soon,” explained Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute. Its partner, Illuminating (Pantone 13-0647) is an exact match for Prada’s spring/summer 2021 runway carpet; an uplifting colour like “skies opening up to a beautiful sunlit day”. Flooring Trends for 2021
Our favourite picks to reflect these shades include Schooner Mist engineered oak (pictured above), Oratory Aged limestone and Dark Grey Tumbled stone-effect porcelain.
Schooner Mist mixes dark grey with hints of green and brown, like decking in an old sailing boat, whilst Oratory Aged Limestone is a pebble grey stone with an undulating finish. Dark Grey Tumbled stone-effect porcelain is a smoky charcoal shade with a subtle textured surface and tumbled edge.
Patterned & Colourful Wall Tile Trends for 2021
For a shot of sunshine, we love Cadiz (pictured in our bathroom scene) – a joyful patterned encaustic that combines a buttercup yellow with an overlay of white waves and swirls – and Amarillo, a striking wall tile in a vibrant wash of colour that softens to a lighter shade, like lemon meringue pie.
