Petrified wood is handmade using a process called permineralization, which comes from the Greek root petro meaning rock or stone and literally means "wood turned into stone". Petrification occurs underground, when wood becomes buried. Petrified ‘submerged’ forests exist throughout the world, including the UK. At Indigenous, we have a petrified wood basin or pedestal to choose from. Both are statement pieces with gnarled, tactile trunk-like exteriors, whilst inside they are completely smooth and stone-like, creating a stunning contrast.
